Persuasion Psychology: 3 Powerful Ways to Get What You Want
If you are on this site I am guessing that you are sick and tired of people running your life
for you. Most of the time we are totally unaware of when persuasion psychology is being used on us.
Just imagine how much of it was used on you when you were young and oblivious to the effect your parents were having on you. In this article I want to make you aware of the different ways influence persuasion can be used on you.
Persuasion Psychology Technique #1: Manipulating Your Morals
You most likely have a sense of what is right and what is wrong. These are your morals. Charitable organizations use this technique to get you to donate for worthy cause but this can also be used by people you work with during desperate times as well.
Imagine yourself face with these two scenarios. Your walking down the sidewalk and a down and out street person is begging on the side of the road. You most likely have no problem just walking past without feeling too guilty about it. Now you get to work and “Joe”, your co-worker, who just had is house burn down, without any insurance coverage, asks you for some money. Can you say “no”? Most likely not.

Now I am not advocating making up hard luck stories to get your way. An authentic reason should be enough to convince others to help you.
Persuasion Psychology Technique #2: Jousting With The Joneses
What about those Joneses anyway? Regardless of the name they could be anyone in your neighborhood that inspires envy upon the other neighbors. Advertising agencies are famous for taking advantage of a person’s need to belong, be accepted, be one of the gang.
Think of when the ipad was being launched. The lineups were incredible because everyone just had to have the latest first. It is not like there are no other comparable products in that category yet Apple is something everyone clamors for.
It’s just not all the capabilities of it that makes it desirable but more so it is the powerful feeling people get by owning such a brand. To have and ‘ipad’ put’s them in an elite circle and how doesn’t want to hang with that kind of crowd?
Persuasion Psychology Technique #3: Everything Old is New Again
When something is powerful why stop using it? Think back to what you or your child ate for breakfast this morning. What caused you to buy that particular product or brand? The art of persuasion of course.
The answer, usually, is because of the way it was advertised or marketed to the consumer. Fortified! Organic! All New! What do all these words really mean anyway?
These same words, except organic of course, have been used over and over again in advertising since the printing press was invented. There has never been a need to change to different words because most people can never get enough of the latest and greatest. The packaging, although important, is secondary to the words used to describe the product.
Keep in mind that persuasion psychology can be used in a ethical manner or an unethical one. This choice falls on you. Take advantage of these powerful techniques to get what you want. Good luck!
